Faith & Flow: 5 Tips for a Fun & Productive Summer!

Hey everyone! As July winds down here in hot and humid Goose Creek, and we soak up these last precious summer weeks, let's talk about making the most of them – not just for fun, but for our spirit too. Summer's laid-back vibe can be amazing, but it's also a perfect time to grow, especially for us creative souls!

Here are 5 faith-based tips to keep you inspired, productive, and joyful through the rest of the season:

  1. Start Your Day with Gratitude (and Sunshine!): Before you check your phone, before the to-do list floods in, take a moment. Step outside if you can, feel the South Carolina sun, and genuinely thank God for a new day. A heart of gratitude sets a positive tone, no matter what comes your way – whether you're planning new leather designs or just enjoying a quiet moment. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” – Psalm 107:1

  2. "Sabbath" Your Summer Fun & Your Craft: Summer is for adventures! But amidst the beach trips and barbecues, remember to truly rest and recharge. This isn't just about sleeping in; it's about intentionally stepping away from work and even your beloved leatherworking projects to enjoy God's creation and simply be. Whether it's a quiet evening walk, an unplugged afternoon, or just setting your tools down for a bit, make space for soul-nourishing rest. It will make your creative output even better! “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” – Exodus 20:8

  3. Plant Seeds (Literally or in Your Studio): What do you want to grow this summer? Maybe it's a new leatherworking technique, a deeper relationship, or even actual herbs in a pot! Faith teaches us about sowing and reaping. Invest your time and energy wisely. If you're looking for productivity in your creative arts, break down big goals into small, manageable "seeds" you can plant daily – like prepping leather, sketching designs, or cutting that first piece. Small steps lead to beautiful, finished products. “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6

  4. Practice Presence (In Life & In Your Hands): It’s so easy to scroll away our precious moments, and even rush through our creative process. This summer, challenge yourself to be truly present. When you're with loved ones, be with them. When you're shaping that leather, feel the material, focus on each stitch, each cut. Being present allows you to see God's handiwork all around you and truly appreciate the blessings, both in your life and in the art, you create with your own hands. “Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

  5. Serve Others (With Your Gifts!): Summer often brings opportunities for community. Look for ways to serve, even if it's just helping a neighbor, bringing a meal to a friend, or perhaps sharing your leatherworking talent in a small way. Creating something meaningful for someone else, or teaching a skill, can bring immense joy and purpose, reflecting God's love through your unique gifts. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10

There you have it! Let's make these last summer days count, not just for fun memories, but for spiritual growth and creative flourishing too.
